Wine Blast master vigneron Peter Richards to feature Margaret River after visit to region with Wines of WA

One of the world’s leading wine podcasts is set to highlight Margaret River wines to the world. Master of Wine Peter Richards recently spent a week in the region as well as the Great Southern as part of his acclaimed podcast series Wine Blast, co-hosted with Susie Barrie. In a trip sponsored by Wines of WA, the veteran vigneron toured multiple locations in the company of some of the region’s most expert and awarded winemakers as part of a deep dive into Margaret River’s wine history and most stellar varietals. WA Wines to the World program manager Liz Mencel said the visit was invaluable to the industry, with Richards’ visit providing “a rich palette” of content for his podcast to feature. It was understood the vigneron’s visit to the Great Southern would feature in the episode released today, January 24, while Margaret River would be the star attraction on February 7. Wine Blast was consistently rated in the top one per cent of downloaded podcasts in the Apple store and Richards had written four books as well as numerous articles for publications including The Guardian and the UK’s Evening Standard. Voyager Estate chief winemaker Tim Shand was among those who spent time with the visiting master of wine. He told the Times it was “a privilege and a pleasure” to host Richards. “I am excited to have an MW as erudite as Peter taking a deep dive into Margaret River wine and taking his experience to the broad audience that Wine Blast has built,” Shand said. Richards’ visit to the region coincided with the recent inaugural Pair’d Margaret River festival that allowed him to attend flagship tastings at Cape Mentelle and Cullen Wines as well as speak to festival-goers. He also visited Cherubino Wines, Xanadu, Moss Wood, Passel Estate, Vasse Felix and Cloudburst Wines.
