West Coast Eagles training notes: Bo Allan pushes for round one debut, Ryan Maric impresses in match sim

West Coast’s pre-season training continues to build with players going head-to-head in skills, drills and match simulation. Here’s what we saw at Mineral Resources Park on Friday. Put your hand up With the season creeping closer, players are using match simulation as an opportunity to put their hand up for round one. A positional shift to defence has done wonders for Ryan Maric, who was drafted 18 months ago as a mobile forward. Maric was easily the best rebound defender during match simulation with his laser kicking on display as the Eagles look to move the ball out of defence quicker under new coach Andrew McQualter. First-round draft pick Bo Allan also impressed playing in the back line for the stronger ‘blue’ team. The battle for No 1 ruck continues with Matt Flynn started in the blue team before but switching out with Bailey Williams. Forwards Archer Reid and Tyrell Dewar also spent time in the blue team as they push for game time in 2025 while it was encouraging to see Campbell Chesser and Harry Edwards join in on limited game time as they return from injury. Baker back Richmond recruit Liam Baker sent a scare through the Eagles camp when he limped from the ground after landing awkwardly during match simulation on Wednesday. Baker went straight to the trainers and had ice strapped to his right ankle before heading into the club rooms but it seems the injury was only minor with the dual premiership player returning to the field today. Signs looked positive as the half back jogged laps and completed running drills with young defender Rhett Bazzo on the opposite oval to main training. It is the second pre-season injury for the 27-year-old who was on restricted training last week due to rib soreness picked up in match simulation. Veteran Eliott Yeo was absent from training as he recovered from an MCL injury sustained last Friday, Richmond recruit Jack Graham was also missing due to personal reasons. All-Australian forward Jake Waterman watched from the sidelines and did not take part in training. Ryan gears up for All Stars Liam Ryan is letting his performances at training do the talking and was a stand out once again during match simulation. Ryan continues to train as he waits on the AFL to complete their investigation after a video surfaced on social media of the premiership forward involved in a street fight at a music festival two weeks ago. It is understood the club have completed their enquiries into the incident but are waiting for the AFL to finalise theirs before they provide a statement. The 28-year-old was lively up forward combining with Tyler Brockman, who will be looking to add to his ten games in his first season with the Eagles Harley hurt? West Coast star Harley Reid left the ground during match simulation and did not return after appearing to injure his lower leg. The star midfielder took himself over to medical staff and was seen stretching before taking off his boots and heading into the clubrooms. He later returned to watch the end of the session from the sidelines.
