To celebrate the AFL’s retro round, West Coast has given their fans a pre-game pump-up, reverting to their original club theme song for their round 21 clash.

After months of fan demand the club finally gave members the moment they’ve craved, blaring the club’s very first song as co-captain Oscar Allen led his charges onto Optus Stadium.

Hosting Gold Coast in a rare Friday night clash at home, the Eagles AFLW team formed a guard of honour for the men as they ran through their banner, which read: “Suns from the east, set in the west. Sorry, golden boys, but this is our nest”.

The club has been using an updated version of their anthem by Perth band Birds of Tokyo since 2020 but are expected to switch to a new tune as early as next season after fan demand.

After bringing back the pre-game banner in 2024, having used an inflatable Eagles head tunnel for multiple seasons, fans have been vocal about bringing back the original “We’re Flying High” song used during West Coast’s inaugural season in 1987.
