Perth Scorchers could be forced to overcome a dicy outfield if they are to beat the Melbourne Renegades on Monday night as a spinner makes his debut and an import gets dropped.

Marvel Stadium is hosting its first game of the tournament after the Renegades hosted their opening home game at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong.

However, the surface looks in tatters, with long, dry-looking strips of turf dominating the ground with a newly replaced patch at one end.

The ground hosted a RMIT graduation ceremony as recently as December 18 on top of major concerts involving Coldplay, Travis Scott, The Weeknd, and Pearl Jam since the AFL season concluded in September.

The venue is believed to have deemed the surface safe and stable enough for play with the Renegades deciding to field first.

Motorcycle daredevils also performed on the grass pre-game.

The stadium is one of the game’s most unique, featuring a roof that can get in the way of sixes and catches, as well as practice wickets on the outfield that make fielding tough.

Perth, who come into the clash having tasted defeat to Hobart on Saturday, were forced into a change with Jhye Richardson leaving the team to join the Australian Test squad ahead of the Boxing Day Test.

Andrew Tye replaces the right-arm seamer, while Lance Morris has been dropped for the clash after a nightmare day in Hobart.

Leg-spinner Matthew Spoors will make his debut as the Scorchers roll a two-pronged spin attack while English import Matthew Hurst makes way for Matthew Kelly’s first appearance of the campaign.

Josh Inglis remains in the team and will be hoping to extend the Scorchers’ impressive Marvel Stadium record, with the side having a 7-1 record at Marvel Stadium.
