Melbourne Cup 2024: Winning jockey Robbie Dolan once competed on hit singing competition The Voice
Newly-minted Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Robbie Dolan once competed in television singing contest The Voice.
Dolan, who won the country’s most famous race aboard $63 outsider Knight’s Choice, made it through to the quarterfinals of The Voice in 2022.
The Irishman was knocked out before the semifinals stage of the show after singing Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus.
On Tuesday he won one of the biggest prizes in world racing, edging Warp Speed by a half-head in a photo-finish at Flemington.
Dolan took only a few days off to take part in the competition two years ago.
The 28-year-old first turned heads — and chairs — with a rendition of James Bay’s ballad Let It Go and landed on the team of pop superstar Rita Ora on the show.
His father also surprised him in Melbourne just days before the race and Dolan joked he was meant to be racing again on Thursday, but might not make it after a two days of partying.
