Indigenous All Stars: Fremantle to unveil Murphy Reid in All Stars clash as Dockers name strong squad

Fremantle fans will get a preview of top draftee Murphy Reid after the young gun was named in the 30-player squad to take on the Indigenous All-Stars at Optus Stadium on Saturday. Reid and rookie ruck Aiden Riddle will run out alongside their more experienced teammates against the All-Stars that will be led by Dockers champion Michael Walters. Taken with pick No.17 last year, Reid has impressed as a big-bodied midfielder and half-forward throughout the pre-season. Drafted out of the Sandringham Dragons, Reid averaged 24.5 touches for Vic Metro and was named in the Under-18 All-Australian team. “A pretty talented group I’ve got to try and fit my way into but it will be awesome to learn off them,” Reid told The West Australian after being drafted. “They will be awesome role models for me, obviously a few of them have come over from Melbourne. “On-field my decision-making and composure and my ball use, hopefully I can complement them and their awesome skills.” Claremont product Riddle will back up Liam Reidy and Luke Jackson in the ruck against uncapped West Coast bigman Coen Livingstone and Port Adelaide forward Jeremy Finlayson. Defenders Heath Chapman and Brennan Cox have also been named after being managed out of the Dockers’ pre-season intraclub last week. Walters and recruit Shai Bolton will line up for the All-Stars, while Fremantle captain Alex Pearce will not appear for either team as he deals with a minor ankle injury he sustained last week. Also absent are injured stars Sean Darcy (ankle and knee), Nat Fyfe (knee), Hayden Young (hamstring) and Odin Jones (back). Former Port Adelaide forward Quinton Narkle, defenders Oscar McDonald and Ollie Murphy, forward Jack Delean, draftees Charlie Nicholls and Jaren Carr have also not been named. The Dockers will come up against a powerhouse squad with 30 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander AFL players from 17 clubs will take part in the match. Among the squad are seven All-Australians, nine premiership players, six top-10 draft picks, and three mark-of-the-year winners. The game will be played at Optus Stadium on Saturday, with bouncedown at 4.30pm.
