Fremantle captain Alex Pearce ‘fully committed’ to Dockers’ bid for maiden premiership despite Tasmania pull

Fremantle captain Alex Pearce has knocked back suggestions his two-year extension could be linked to a future Tasmanian homecoming. It comes as the 29-year-old confirmed he wants to remain as skipper ahead of a crucial season for the Dockers. Pearce signed a two-year contract extension last week, tying him to the club until the end of 2027. While the timing aligns with Tasmania’s entry into the league the following year, Pearce emphatically declared the length of the contract was entirely about giving his all to the Dockers’ bid for a maiden premiership. “I came over here when I was 18, I’m going to turn 30 this year,” he said. “The dream of winning a premiership and being the first team to do that burns really strong and that’s what I want to be a part of. “To have three years where I can really lock that in and throw everything at it... lay it all out there, let’s see how many premierships we can win, it’s really motivating.” Pearce admits his injury history played a part in the length of his contract, given he missed eight of the last nine games in 2024. And while he concedes he will have to put his “body on the line” in future, the new deal gives him a clear time frame in a bid to finish his career as a premiership player. “I’m turning 30 this year, there’s not too many 30-year-olds that have had three broken legs, a broken arm and done a knee that get five-year contracts,” he said. “Fortunately, I like the three-year time frame where I can really commit and I’m just fully committed to this club and to help bring success to it” In what looms as a pivotal season for the Dockers, the club is yet to finalise their leadership group - including who will be the captain. Pearce re-affirmed his interest in continuing in the role he’s held for the past two seasons, while vice-captain and back-to-back Doig Medallist Caleb Serong has firmed as his likely successor. Whether he must relinquish that role in the next month, year or three years, a fired-up Pearce says his main goal is to be part of the club’s maiden flag. “Premiership player or captain, it doesn’t really matter,” he said. “We are all really committed. After the way last season finished, there is just a real hunger in all of us to go all in. “It’s been a bit of a calling card of the group that we want to go all in and just throw everything at it and leave no stone unturned. “It will mean a lot to our community, our players and past players, our staff, to bring that first premiership home. I definitely want to be a part of it.”
