Western Bulldogs forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan is in growing doubt for Round 1 as he continues to miss key AFL pre-season sessions.

The 22-year-old has been seen intermittently at Whitten Oval since the Bulldogs returned to pre-season training in November.

He was absent again from the main session on Monday, while he also missed Friday’s heavy hitout despite completing his own boxing session away from the club.

The Bulldogs issued a statement supporting Ugle-Hagan on Tuesday afternoon.

“The Western Bulldogs can confirm that forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan is currently undertaking flexible training arrangements as he deals with personal issues,” the club wrote.

“With the endorsement of the football program, Jamarra has alternated his training between Whitten Oval and away from the club.

“The club continues to provide its full support to Jamarra and remains in constant contact with him, his family and his management.

“With Jamarra’s health and wellbeing of paramount importance, the club requests that his privacy be respected during this period.”

A limited preparation would leave Ugle-Hagan unlikely to be in the selection mix for the Indigenous All Stars exhibition match to be played against Fremantle on February 15.

Ugle-Hagan took personal leave early last season to return home to south-west Victoria and sat out two matches.

He finished the year with a career-best 43 goals and won the Bulldogs’ goalkicking for the first time.

The Framlingham product signed a two-year extension until 2026 in May after knocking back strong offers from rivals including Hawthorn.
