Letter to the Editor: Removing fig trees from gaol is short sighted

It appears we have another knee-jerk reaction to solve a problem.

Fig trees destroying old jail, cut them down they order (Albany Advertiser, September 5, ‘Fig trees to go to save gaol’).

Rubbish.

Dig a trench with one of our council diggers, cut the roots and remove them — problem solved.

It would take half-a-day’s work with our enthusiastic city council workers and we can still enjoy the 40-year-old trees and save the jail.
