Busselton Mayor Ian Stubbs broke ground on the next stage of the Busselton Foreshore Master Plan on Wednesday, with work having begun on the Youth Activities Precinct.

Vasse MLA Libby Mettam and City of Busselton staff attended the site, which will soon be home to the $1.35 million Busselton skate park.

Mr Stubbs said the project was one-of-a-kind for the region.

"This is the start of something significant for Busselton," he said.

"It's very exciting to see this stage of the development now under way, and I thank the State Government for their continued support.

"I also want to thank all the people, young and old, who got involved in the design process."

The skate park will cover an area of around 2000sqm - three times bigger than the existing facilities.

It is being created by Convic, a company specialising in the development of skate parks across the world.

Ms Mettam said the State Government had committed more than $2 million to the precinct and foreshore plan.

"The precinct is recognition of youth activity in the community and has been placed on the best piece of land in Busselton," she said.

"The State Government recognised the foreshore plan in developing Busselton and we credit the City of Busselton for their work on the project."

The Busselton Youth Precinct will be completed by the end of this year.
