Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers has outlined which WA Federal seats would benefit most from the planned changes to the stage three tax cuts.

The details of who in WA will win out came as Anthony Albanese ruled out an increase to welfare payments in exchange for crossbench support to ensure the passage of the Government’s proposed changes to stage three tax cuts.

Under a reworked scheme unveiled by the Prime Minister on Thursday, anyone earning less than $150,000 will receive a bigger tax cut while those earning more are in line for a smaller benefit than previously promised.

“We know that low and middle-income Australians are under financial pressure (and) it’s a responsibility of the Government to do something about it,” he said on Saturday.

“That’s why the Government has changed our decision because of the persistence of inflation.

“We’re determined to do something about it, we have made the right decision for the right reasons.”

Mr Albanese’s decision to revamp the July 1 tax cuts has been met with heavy opposition from the Liberals, with leader Peter Dutton challenging the PM to call an early election on the issue.

Dr Chalmers claimed that the new tax scale would result in more dollars in the pay packets of struggling West Australians.

“Every taxpayer in Western Australia will now get a tax cut and the vast majority of workers will get a bigger tax cut,” Dr Chalmers said.

“The people of Western Australia are big beneficiaries of our bigger tax cuts for more Australians.”

The changes to the original stage three tax cuts first proposed by the Coalition will need to pass Parliament before they are due to come into effect in July, with the Government needing the support of the Greens and crossbench.

But Mr Albanese said the Government would not be renegotiating welfare payment rates in exchange for support.

“What we have targeted here is middle Australia who are doing it tough, those middle-class working families who are doing it tough because of rising inflation and cost of living, this program is aimed directly and squarely at them,” he said.

The percentage of people in WA electorates set to get a bigger tax cut under the changes:

  • Cowan (covering parts of Bayswater, Joondalup, Stirling, Wanneroo and Swan) — 87 per cent
  • Burt (covering parts of Armadale, Canning and Gosnells) — 87 per cent
  • Pearce (covering parts of Swan and Wanneroo) — 85 per cent
  • Brand (covering parts of Kwinana and Rockingham) — 85 per cent
  • Forrest (covering parts of Augusta, Bunbury, Busselton, Capel, Dardanup, Donnybrook-Balingup and Harvey) — 84 per cent.
