A dolphin calf has been spotted entangled in rope in Port Geographe Marina.

Department of Parks and Wildlife were first alerted to the dolphin earlier this month by members of the public, who saw the calf with its mother.

Port Geographe resident Sandra Holmes said she saw the dolphin calf in the marina last Friday morning with blue rope tangled around its dorsal fin and tail.

"It looked all right, but I am worried it will get caught on something," she said.

"It was quite distressing and I am quite worried about it."

DPaW regional wildlife officer Pia Courtis said at this stage the rope did not seem to be affecting the calf.

"At this stage it doesn't seem like the entanglement is compromising its health or safety," she said.

"For us to try to catch the dolphin to remove the rope would cause a lot of stress to the calf and alienate its family group, and we would probably end up putting it in jeopardy."
