Busselton in masterful win

Busselton overpowered a combative Margaret River 7-0 at Churchill Park on Sunday.

This game had a remarkable resemblance to their first round encounter in that Busselton was made to battle for dominance in the first half before methodically dismantling their opponents in the second spell.

Busselton asserted its authority early in the match and scored after 14 minutes through a piece of Cristiano Ronaldo-like magic.

With his back to goal, Danny Kane's agile scissor-volley gave Margaret River custodian Ian Scott no chance of saving.

The next 20 minutes were evenly contested but after 35 minutes the visitors were reduced to 10 men when striker Gregor Small was dismissed for a late tackle.

In the second half, the locals' high-possession style of soccer exploited a bedraggled opposition defence as they capitalised on their numerical advantage.

They were ruthless and did not lift their foot off the gas with goals to Alan Dowling (2), Mike Newell (2), Michel Seia and Shayden Bloomfield after the break.

Coach Shane Russell would have been satisfied with this performance which was in keeping with the season's mantra of enhancing an attacking mode of play and offering players a freedom to express themselves.

Busselton Masters team were awarded a forfeit win over Eaton Dardanup and their upcoming game against neighbours Geographe Bay will be vital to their premiership aspirations.

Busselton continued to show that they are a force in South West ladies soccer with both teams recording convincing wins.

The Premier League side disposed of Margaret River 5-1, leading at half-time through goals from Stacey Rouse (2) and Sami Noakes.

They extended the lead after the break through Keely Milner and Ariana Dawson before Margaret River scored from the penalty spot.

The locals were impressive particularly the ball-winning ability of Janelle Snadden and Emmi Hayward's speed and guile which came in handy at the back.

The Ladies Reserve side remained at the top of the ladder by defeating Manjimup 3-0 in a cohesive and clinical performance with goals to Ariana Dawson, Marli Enslin and Rianna Coshutt.

This Sunday Busselton host Hay Park United in what promises to be four closely contested tussles.
