Bushfire unfolding in Hopeland in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale amid fast-changing conditions

An unpredictable bushfire has taken hold in Perth’s southern suburbs.

Watch and act advice is in place for people bounded by Jarrah Road, Yangedi Road and Karnup Road in parts of Hopeland in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale.

“There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is burning in the area and the conditions are changing,” the latest DFES alert reads.

The alert level was momentarily upgraded to emergency level as the fire is moving quickly to the west, towards the Kwinana Freeway, but was downgraded just after 12.30pm.

The blaze, which started near Yangedi Road just after 11.30am on Tuesday, is out of control and unpredictable.

And wind gusts up to 35km/h threaten to make the job harder for fireys.

Firefighters are on the scene battling the flames, with about half a dozen firefighting helicopters and fixed-wing water bombers assisting from the sky.

Yangedi Road has been closed and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
