A local group established to help women discuss their birthing experiences is looking for new members.

Birth Circle was started in Busselton 10 years ago by a group of women who wanted to change the negative perceptions surrounding giving birth.

Founder Catherine Evans said she wanted to help create a space that would encourage and support women, and allow them to ask questions they might not be brave enough to ask otherwise.

"I'm really happy that the group has been available for women and has been able to help them," she said.

The group has now expanded with groups running out of Dunsborough, Margaret River, Bunbury and Karratha.

Birth Circle facilitator Amy Garrett said the group discussed pre-birth, birth and post-birth topics, and is a confidential space where women hear each other's stories and offer support.

"It's a place where each person can share their experiences," she said.

"I know when I was pregnant, a lot of people told me about the horror stories about giving birth, so it has been nice to talk about birth in a positive way that made me feel at ease," she said.

Ms Garrett said the women who attended the group were all at different stages of motherhood, ranging from first-time mums to those who had finished having children.

"We would also love for dads to come and be involved in the process," she said. Ms Garrett said the group was a space for her to discuss her concerns about giving birth when she was first pregnant.

"I decided to have a home birth and I came to the group and was surrounded by people who made me feel confident in my choices," she said.

"It has also been a way for me to meet other mums." The group has guest speakers every few months, from midwifery, health and nutrition to cooking for families.

Birth Circle meets monthly every third Thursday, from 10am, at Pepi Cafe in Busselton Community Gardens, off Strelly Street.
