Perth traffic: One dead after crash on Tonkin Highway as several breakdowns cause havoc
A horror crash has claimed the life of a passenger and closed Tonkin Highway southbound from Gosnells Road West to Mills Road in Martin.
The crash happened in the early hours of Thursday when a vehicle carrying three people veered off the road and hit a tree.
It is understood that one of the passengers died at the scene.
Emergency services are still on the scene and motorists should avoid the area with the section of highway expected to be closed for several hours.
An accident on Guildford Road westbound at Tonkin Highway in Baywater has blocked the left lane, slowing traffic on approach.
Motorists are out of their vehicles and towies are onsite.
An earlier breakdown on Kwinana Freeway northbound at Thomas Road has been cleared but traffic remains heavy and drivers are urged to take caution.
And a breakdown on Mitchell Freeway southbound at Vincent Street in Leederville has also ben cleared but traffic remains heavy to Hutton Street.
