Zonta Dunsborough has marked a milestone, celebrating 25 years since it was chartered in 1991.

Charter president Linley Scott said the club had 32 members when it was first started in the town, and over the years had contributed greatly to the community.

Ms Scott said there had been several projects over the years that had contributed to the prevention of violence against women, ambulance services, and supported women who had undergone treatment for breast cancer, among others.

The club also recognises outstanding women in the community and provides scholarships as part of its work.

Ms Scott said the mission of Zonta was to empower women across the world.

“The thing that drew me to Zonta was that all money raised goes to projects,” she said.

“It’s a very rewarding thing to do.”

As part of its support for women who had gone through breast cancer treatment, the club made breast cushions and Ms Scott said about 250 cushions had been made in the last year alone.

Club member Kristine Carter said Zonta made a great contribution to the welfare of people and recognised the efforts of local young women.

“It’s a wonderful feeling because we’ve done such a lot of good in the club,” she said.

“There’s been a lot of strong friendships that have formed over the years.”

The club is gearing up for its annual Melbourne Cup fundraiser and Ms Carter said it was also hoped it could attract more members.
