A group of young mechanics from Geographe Primary School are building a rally car ahead of the Quit Forrest Rally.

Geographe Primary School principal Tim Baker said the boys were picking up trades skills first-hand by working with volunteer and parent Kelvin May on the car as part of their Young Mechanics program.

Last week the ten boys were visited by auto cross rally driver Cody Reynolds who brought along his car and the one he navigates, which is driven by Cam Tunstall.

Mr Baker said the Trade Hire cars were brought in as an example of what a rally car looks like.

“This gives them an idea of the specifications they need to have their car at, and what work they have to do, ” Mr Baker said.

Independent Public School Young Mechanics program students have previously worked on small engines from motorcycles to lawnmowers.
