Young, emerging artists for festival

Busselton Dunsborough Times

The countdown is on to the 24th annual Nannup Music Festival to be held over the March long weekend, boasting an abundant range of familiar favourites and new found talent from far and wide.

According to organisers, the festival was designed to bring together an eclectic mix of emerging artists rather than be about headline acts, offering something for everyone in a nice atmosphere.

Among this year’s list of performers were Papua New Guinean-born Ngaiire, Queenslander Emma Louise, fellow East Coast-based Chance Waters and Canadian Zoe Keating.

Having moved to Australia when she was 16 and built a reputation touring the country and overseas, Ngaiire will use the festival platform to release the first single from her debut album.

It has been a whirlwind couple of years for Emma Louise with sold out shows, international notoriety and an endless list of accolades, all due to her intoxicating voice and honest delivery.

Chance Waters has burst onto the Australian music scene with two tracks from his forthcoming sophomore record making Triple J’s Hottest 100.

Produced by recent hit machine One Above (Hilltop Hoods — I love It), the song Maybe Tomorrow adds a horn and string collaboration with members of Lime Cordial & Cogel.

Zoe Keating is a one-woman orchestra who holds appeal for fans of the classical genre. She uses a cello and a foot-controlled laptop to record layer upon layer of cello, creating intricate, haunting and compelling music.

Other performers include B2M, Mama Kin, Band of Frequencies, Toby, Busby Marou, David Bridie, The Falls, London Klezmer Quartet, Eli Wolfe, Rebecca Ireland, Lucy Peach, Mitch Becker, Jake and the Cowboys.

The weekend will also include street entertainment, workshops and the Emerging Artist Award. For tickets and information, visit www.nannupmusicfestival.org or call 9756 1511.
