YOBS get the job done
YOBS capped off a stellar cricket season with wins in the A-grade and B-grade finals last weekend.
The side, who faced off against Dunsborough in both games, proved too good for their opponents in the A-grade.
Despite losing opener Thomas Evans cheaply for a duck early on, it was a second wicket stand by Simon Godridge (21) and Ben Clarke (61), which set up the dominant final total of 211.
YOBS’ middle order including Callum Steel (26) Colin Harris (22) Haig Colombera (26) and Ben Payne (21), all chipped in to secure the total.
Dunsborough’s Nathan Whitney was the pick of the bowlers for the day, taking four wickets while Braden Surrall, Shane Edwards and Josh Reagan all took two.
In reply, Dunsborough’s innings failed to get off the ground, with the first five batsmen all falling for single figures.
It wasn’t until a 56 not out stand from Phil Watts that the side saw any fightback. The fall of Surrall for 3 put the final total at 128 after 38.1 overs.
YOBS A-grade captain Nayton Colombera said the win was well earned.
“It was a back-to-back win after winning the grand final last year,” he said.
“It was a pretty great feeling to win again.”
In the B-grade, Dunsborough’s total of 128 over 44.2 overs proved too easy for YOBS, who finished the day with 8/131, with Grant Spowart’s 29 not out getting the side across the line.
In the C-grade, Dunsborough chased down St Mary’s total of 144 with the loss of just two wickets to run home with the title.
