Yallingup brewer Eagle Bay Brewing Co has been awarded three gold and two silver medals at the 2016 Australian International Beer Awards.

The family business won gold in categories of best international pale ale and best speciality beer for its Eagle Bay ESB'''' and Eagle Bay Black and silver for best European-style ale, best international pale ale and best IPA.

Eagle Bay business owner and head brewer Nick d’Espeissis said the team won with five out of the seven beers they entered and were very happy with the outcome.

“Receiving recognition for our beers by a national group of judges is really great to have,” he said.

“It is a nice point to gauge how our beers are sitting around the world.”

The competition, now in its 24th year, gathered a record 1793 entries and was judged by a panel of 63 industry experts over three days.

Mr d’Espeissis said a good beer depends on its style.

“It has to have balance, great flavour front to back and needs to be clean and refreshing,” he said.

The 5.1 per cent award-winning Pale Ale left a good impression with the judges.

AIBA head judge Warren Pawsey said the judging panel were impressed with the quality of entries presented.

“This year the medal round was particularly hard to judge with some truly cracking beers entered,” he said.
