Works improve beach conditions
Port Geographe residents believe the condition of local beaches is the best it has been in more than a decade after the completion of the costal reconfiguration earlier this year.
Port Geographe Landowners Association committee member John Valentine has lived in Port Geographe for 18 years and said there was no doubt the beach had improved dramatically.
"It's the best it's been in 15 years," he said.
"There would be one tenth of the weed that was there before, so we're very happy.
"There is a bit of weed left which is frustrating, but it's a lot better."
A mild winter and the early positive performance of the reconfigured coastal structures are being touted as the reasons for the improvement.
Department of Transport coastal infrastructure general manager Steve Jenkins said the excellent condition of the beaches at Port Geographe meant there was no requirement for seagrass wrack bypassing or dredging.
Port Geographe Action Group chair Peter Maccora said the groyne configuration had definitely improved the problem.
"There is no need to do any bypassing of seagrass from the western beach and it is in the same condition as other beachers around Busselton," he said.
"The residents are extremely pleased to see the end of the need to annually bypass seagrass, and we look forward to even better conditions over the next few years."
