Preliminary works have started at the site of the new Busselton Health Campus, with construction expected to start shortly.

Busselton Health Campus redevelopment project co-ordinator Rory Stemp said the initial works included the relocation of power, telecommunications and gas supplies.

“Fences are being erected before the western ringtail possums are relocated to a 420ha secure enclosure in the Perup Sanctuary near Manjimup,” he said.

“Once the relocation is complete, trees that cannot be retained will be cleared and some of the timber will be salvaged and milled for use in the project.”

In response to questions about logistics and operational difficulties during construction, Mr Stemp said a site liaison group would be managing the impact of the work and would involve the main contractor.

“One of the objectives of the project is to maintain all existing services during construction as well as access and new roads and parking areas will be constructed,” he said.

“Noise and dust as well as traffic to the site will be controlled and a draft management plan has been developed which will be implemented before construction begins.”

Vasse MLA Troy Buswell told the Times the head contractor for the project had not been finalised.

He said an announcement was anticipated in the next couple of weeks.
