Whale migration in full swing

Busselton Dunsborough Times

Blue whales have been spotted regularly around Cape Naturaliste on the migration north, according to a tour operator.

Naturaliste Charters owner Paul Cross said about 30 blue whales had been seen this year, with some seen in groups, especially around Dunsborough.

“We’ve got a really, really abnormally-high number of blue whales,” Mr Cross said.

As the whales started their migration, Mr Cross said boat tours had stopped around Augusta and focused on Dunsborough, where they were seeing whales daily.

“There hasn’t been a day where we have seen less than 10 or 15,” he said.

Mr Cross said whales would still be migrating until December or late November.
