Website hopes to attract volunteers

Busselton Meals on Wheels has welcomed the launch of a new website which could help bring more volunteers on board.

The State Government-launched Meals on Wheels WA website is the first for the not-for-profit organisation, which helps elderly and disabled people stay independent in their own homes by delivering nutritious and affordable meals to them.

Busselton Meals on Wheels coordinator Sue Thomas, who started as a volunteer in 2004, said the service not only provided a warm meal, but also a valued source of social interaction.

“Sometime we’re the only people they see,” she said.

“It’s well worth it to know you’re helping someone who needs your help”

Mrs Thomas said the service was always looking for volunteers, either to work on a fortnightly roster or to be called on an emergency basis.

She said the meals were prepared at Busselton Hospital and volunteers were only required for deliveries, and the website was a “fantastic” way to raise awareness about the organisation.
