The State’s best volleyball players will head to the Busselton Jetty foreshore this weekend for round 6 of the Alcohol. Think Again beach volleyball State series.

The Busselton regional round of the Beach Volleyball Tour event has grown since its inception 14 years ago and is almost at capacity with the amount of beach space available.

It is one of the most popular events of the Alcohol. Think Again Beach Volleyball Tour and provides support and a pathway for regional athletes to compete at an elite or recreational level.

It also provides ranking points that are used to identify the winner of the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour.

Two Busselton players have been chosen to represent WA in the Under-23 Beach Volleyball Team to play in the Australian Junior Championships in Glenelg, South Australia, in April this year.

Gabriel Abbott and Dillon Mickan, both 19, have been training regularly in Perth with State coach Marty Suan, who is impressed with the potential and the drive the pair have shown in their transition to beach volleyball from the indoor version.

They will play as a pair in Glenelg, which will allow them to train and play together in the Busselton beach volleyball competition.

Abbott and Mickan made the change to volleyball after also shining in basketball and AFL respectively.

The pair will team up in the AAA division in the upcoming State Series this weekend.

VWA is lobbying Volleyball Australia to host the Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Championships 2017-19.

They are looking to involve the Busselton Foreshore by hosting a warm-up tournament and potentially a National Junior Team Camp after the event.

See all the action from 7am on Saturday and Sunday, and watch the finals from 2pm on Sunday.

Start times may vary, depending on the games’ results and the number of sets to be played.
