Busselton snake relocators Tony Darch and Ruan Pieters are warning residents to take care as the weather starts to warm up.

The Fauna for the Future relocators have already been called out to several snake removal jobs in the past few weeks and said it would only increase as summer approached.

Mr Darch said spring was the busiest time of year, with snakes coming out of hibernation and breeding.

"September, October and November is their mating season so this is the time where they are out and about and on the move," he said.

"During the peak period we remove about three to four snakes a week, with tiger snakes and dugites being the most common."

Mr Pieters said if people saw a snake the best thing to do was to step back calmly and quietly.

"Snakes will only generally attack if they feel threatened so the best thing to do is to stay calm and move away from it quietly," he said.

"If you can, throw a towel or shirt next to the snake so it will hide underneath it.

"If it's in a room shut all the doors and put a towel under the door to prevent it getting out and call a professional to remove it."

Mr Pieters said it was a passion for the reptiles that kept the group going.

"We all work full time, but keep doing this on the side because we have a passion for snakes," he said.

Fauna for the Future volunteers do not get paid, but ask for donations when they remove a snake to help supply equipment.
