Transport Minister Dean Nalder opened the $12.8 million Vasse Bypass in Busselton today.

The project, which was finished ahead of schedule, included the realignment of 4.2km of Bussell Highway from north and west of Vasse.

Mr Nalder said the project would improve road user safety and add impetus to the Newtown development project.

“The Bypass will result in significant safety improvements in the Vasse town site and allow for the expansion of the Vasse Newtown town site,” he said.

“The Bussell Highway through Vasse carried more than 6,000 vehicles per day, of which up to 10 per cent were heavy vehicles, and these volumes will only increase with time.

“By reducing the traffic volumes that would have previously travelled through the town site, which includes two schools, we are improving safety for local road users including cyclists and pedestrians.”

The Vasse Bypass forms part of the overall upgrade to Bussell Highway between Vasse and Margaret River.

Vasse MLA Libby Mettam said the new bypass would help support the growth of the region.

“This region is one of the fastest growing regional areas in the State, and in the Vasse development in particular we have seen a healthy growth of permanent residents,” she said.

“The Vasse Bypass will support the future development of Vasse, not only the residential area but the new Vasse Business Park which continues to thrive.”
