Vasse by-election a three horse race
Equinox Café owner Peter Gordon has been announced as The Nationals WA lead candidate to contest the Vasse by-election this October.
The 49- year-old Busselton businessman owns the beachfront café and Stilts on Broadwater, is a past president of the Busselton Chamber of Commerce and Industry and was on the board of the Geographe Bay Tourism Association.
Nationals WA President Colin de Grussa said Mr Gordon had strong links to regional WA and the South West community.
Mr Gordon said the region was experiencing strong population growth and required planning to ensure jobs for the future and a diversified economy.
“I believe Vasse will benefit greatly from having a representative attached to the party that champions regional development and prosperity,” he said.
Mr Gordon held senior posts at Ravensthorpe Football Club and Busselton Apex Club and is a board member of Geographe Primary School.
The Vasse by-election triggered by the resignation of former State Treasurer Troy Buswell, will be held on October 18.
Dunsborough based Former journalist and electorate officer for MP Barry House, Libby Mettam, will run for the Liberals.
Busselton structural engineer Michael Baldock will represent the Greens, as he did in the March 2013 election.
WA Labor will not stand a candidate.
