Tree volunteers needed at Meelup
The Meelup Regional Park Management Committee has called for volunteers to help with tree-planting efforts over two days next week.
Chairman Bob Jarvis said there was an ongoing need to replenish and revive parklands due to the harsh and dry summer climate, and onshore winds experienced in the area.
“Rehabilitation of degraded areas is one of our important activities and winter is the only time to do it,” Mr Jarvis said.
The goal next week was to plant coastal indigenous varieties around the road verges between Eagle Bay and Meelup beaches, which required an extra six volunteers in addition to the four on board, Mr Jarvis said.
For the second year, the committee would adopt the deep-dune technique which used mechanical augers to dig deep holes and increased the establishment rate of plants.
The first planting day is on Tuesday at 2pm, followed by a second on Saturday, July 9, with a bring-your-own-curry gathering to be held in the evening.
