Tourist bashed at Busselton taxi rank

English tourist Susan Emery said she though she was going to be killed in a brutal bashing in Busselton CBD on Wednesday night.

The 42-year-old, who is travelling around Australia, was the victim of an unprovoked attack at a taxi rank on Queen Street.

Ms Emery had stopped to ask a man and a woman with two young children whether she was in the right place to catch a taxi at 9.30pm.

She said the man began mocking her English accent, threw food at her and then attacked her without provocation.

The attack continued even after Ms Emery had fallen over and did not end until another couple intervened.

She was taken by police to Busselton hospital and was treated for a cracked tooth and swelling to the side of her head.

Busselton Sergeant David Wall condemned the incident as a “disgusting behaviour in front of children”.

A 36-year-old man Busselton man has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and will appear in Bunbury Magistrate’s Court next Tuesday.
