A new adventure race coming to Dunsborough next month will invite corporate teams to swap the boardroom for bike trails.

The Great Adventure Challenge, which has raised almost $1.4 million for the Starlight Children’s Foundation since 2008, is being held in WA for the first time.

Corporate teams of eight will make their way through a 65km to 75km course which includes mountain biking, trail running, kayaking, coasteering and navigation.

Event director Gary Farebrother said Dunsborough had a great combination of tracks, trails and water.

The race will start from the Naturaliste Community Centre, but further details won’t be revealed until the day.

There will be mystery tasks at different points aiming to test the brains and bodies of competitors.

Mr Farebrother said the mystery aspect of the race helped participants develop transferable skills.

“It’s like business — when you come into the office you don’t know what you’re going to have to address and react to and the new challenges you’ll face, ” he said.

Mr Farebrother said competitors did not need a huge level of fitness, because only four people from each eight-person team would be on the course at a time.

He said the fundraising was the most important, with teams given a target of $10,000 to drum up before the event.

“If a team raises the $10,000 they’ll get a half-an-hour time bonus and if they raise $20,000 they’ll get an hour bonus, so that means they’ll gain an advantage before the actual event, ” he said.

The challenge will be held on July 19 and entries close on July 4.
