Busselton's war memorial will be surrounded by a field of poppies on Remembrance Day this year thanks to an initiative known as the Poppy Project, which will run until the end of October.

The City of Busselton and Busselton RSL are calling on residents to manufacture red poppies, which can be dedicated to their loved ones or those who have served in wars throughout the decades.

As part of the initiative, the groups are supplying pre-made packs of materials to make poppies including felt, wire and buttons which will be collected and installed as a sculpture in the lead up to Remembrance Day.

Busselton RSL sub-branch president Bob Wood said he hoped to see thousands of poppies adorning the war memorial in Busselton on November 11.

"We're hoping a lot of people will come forward to manufacture the poppies," he said. "I think it's a wonderful initiative."

Residents are also invited to create their own poppies with a rough diameter of 10cm.

The craft flowers will be collected from now until October 31 when all the poppies will be put in place.

Poppies packs and completed poppies can be picked up from or delivered to the Busselton RSL, the ArtGeo Cultural Complex or Busselton Library.

The sculpture will remain in place for about four weeks.
