SW film fest wins tourism award
CinefestOZ film festival won the Perth Airport Events and Tourism Award in the 2014 Regional Achievement and Community Awards on Friday.
More than 350 guests attended a gala awards night including South West MP Colin Holt who represented Regional Development Minister Terry Redman to celebrate the achievements of many of regional and rural Western Australia’s highest achievers and community groups.
CinefestOZ representative David Barton was presented with the award by Perth Airport executive general manager Fiona Lander.
Category winners received a $2,000 Smart Access Bank Account from Commonwealth Bank and a trophy.
Bunbury’s Alison Comparti received the Western Areas Community Service and Volunteering Award.
CinefestOZ features a diverse range of Australian and French films and related events in the region’s cinemas, wineries, bars and galleries.
Since it started in 2008, CinefestOZ has grown on average 30 per cent each year with 15,000 people attending last year.
Two hundred public screenings were held for 2014 along with many film related events including forums with filmmakers, red carpet gala nights and filmmaking workshops.
