A Busselton doctor has been awarded for his passion for rural medicine in the Rural Health West Doctors' Service Awards in Perth.

Dr Phillip Reid was last month recognised for his dedication to patients and the community during his 35-year career as a GP in Kalgoorlie.

"To be nominated by my peers is a real honour and to be recognised for my time as a GP means a lot."

Dr Reid, who moved to Quindalup 13 months ago, followed in the footsteps of his father, who was a GP in Boulder.

"I'd lived there my whole life and the kids I grew up with were my patients," he said.

Busselton Dr Anthony Best was also honoured for more than 20 years of service to rural medicine.
