Bronte Macaulay, Creed McTaggart and Jacob Willcox were given the early Christmas present last week, named in the Australian junior surf squad that will fight a wave of international talent at the world junior championships in Panama in April.
The trio emerged victorious from a gruelling selection camp under national coaching director Martin Dunn.
A fourth Capes surfer, Yallingup’s Mikaela Green, was narrowly pipped in the squad decision.
During the selection camp each athlete’s wave point averages, previous competition results, fitness, and overall approach were tested and analysed allowing point scores to be awarded to each surfer.
“It was a very tough and close selection camp, with only the smallest of margins separating each surfer,” Mr Dunn said in a media statement.
“Surfing Australia is very pleased with the attitude and skills displayed by the next generation of Australian surfers and are now confident that we have selected a strong team who will do Australia proud at the World Junior Championships.”
McTaggart and Macaulay will compete in the under-18 categories, while Willcox will compete in the under-16s.
