Surfing: Taj's Small Fries this weekend
More than 120 of WA’s best junior surfers converge on Yallingup today for Taj’s Small Fries competition.
World number four and Yallingup local Taj Burrow hosts the sixth annual event running until Sunday.
Burrow told the Times a big swell was forecast.
“We’ll hopefully be able to be mobile to some other breaks that will hold the swell like Smith’s reef,” he said.
“It looks like the kids are going to score.”
Margaret River’s Jack Robinson was tipped as the surfer to beat.
“He is always a standout, he’s won a couple of divisions before,” he said.
“He’s just turned 13 and will be surfing in the under-16s this year.”
Burrow said the standard of surfing was definitely higher than when he was a junior.
Burrow said he planned to hang out with the competitors, give them support and commentate.
“We’ll be doing all sorts of fun stuff, have barbecues everyday and there’ll be lots of giveaways for the kids,” he said.
Participants will meet at Yallingup Mainbreak at 7am each morning to find out where competition will be held.
