Surfing reward for Busselton students
A group of 18 Busselton Senior High School Noongar students enjoyed a two-day camp surfing at Budgenup beach and kayaking along the Margaret River.
The students stayed at The Venison Farm and also enjoyed ping pong, pool and a movie night.
The camp, organised by Belinda Bartlett, Lauren Patey and Geoff Holt, rewarded students who have shown excellent levels of attendance since the start of the school year.
It was an opportunity for the students to learn to surf with Palmateer’s Academy, with all students achieving their level one Surfing Australia qualification.
The skills gained by the students included identifying hazards and rips along the coast, ocean safety, as well as catching broken waves and riding them into the beach.
Rory O’Keefe and Eli McDonald also achieved their level two certificates having mastered the art of catching and riding unbroken waves.
After two days of surfing in near perfect conditions, the students explored the Margaret River on kayaks, canoes and stand up paddle boards.
