The chance of rubbing shoulders with film star Sam Worthington on the set of surfing movie Drift has attracted a wave of enthusiasm from Dunsborough and Yallingup locals.

Producers of surfing-themed movie Drift, which is set to be filmed in the Yallingup and Margaret River region, have put the call out for staff to work on set when it starts filming in the region in July.

Producer Tim Duffy said locals would be sought to be actors, extras and crew in the film.

Dunsborough beginner surfer Jay Grafton has put her hand up for an extra role in the production.

The musician said the chance to be involved in “something different” on home turf and the opportunity to meet contacts to help further her career was too good to pass.

Ms Grafton said the whole region could benefit from the production being filmed at local surf breaks.

“Tourism will go up I’m guessing as soon as word of famous people roaming round town comes out,” she said.

The movie’s storyline includes two 1970s brothers who “battle killer waves, straight society and ruthless bikers to kick-start the modern surf industry.”

Contact details to be involved would be released next month.
