Students from Geographe Primary School are hitting the track ahead of the Chevron City to Surf in Busselton.

The Activ fundraiser is expected to attract big numbers on Sunday, August 17.

Participants will start from Signal Park and tackle a 4km run or walk, a 12km run or walk or 4km by wheelchair along Geographe Bay.

Geographe Primary School Year 4 teacher Carolyn Powley is using the event to promote health and fitness to her class.

“I ran in the Perth City to Surf and thought maybe I would get the kids to do the Busselton one, ” she said.

“I thought it would be good for learning about health and fitness this term.

“It’s about letting the kids know they can participate in these community activities, as many of them haven’t done this kind of thing before.”

Ms Powley said her Year 4 students were getting excited about the event.

They would be training on the bike track right outside their classroom.

“Originally it was just going to be my class, but now there’s talk of the rest of the school getting involved, ” she said.

“I’m really pleased to see the school embracing it. Hopefully we’ll get as many kids as possible entering.”

Georgiana Molloy Anglican School, Vasse Primary School and West Busselton Primary School have also entered the City to Surf in Busselton.
