Student chops 12-month hair growth for charity
Dunsborough Primary School grounds were filled with squeals and cheers at lunchtime last Friday when student Jaspar Watts shaved his locks off for cancer research.
The Year 6 student had been growing his hair for the last 12 months after deciding to do the World’s Greatest Shave.
“It was the start of last year when I decided I wanted to grow my hair for a cause,” he said.
“Someone else in the school had done the World’s Greatest Shave and I decided I also wanted to help people who were less fortunate than me.”
Jaspar’s original goal was to raise $1200, and surpassed that raising $1700.
The total was also helped by the students, who generously filled a hat while Jaspar was having his hair shaved.
Jaspar’s mum Melissa Watts said she was proud of her son, who had come to her with the idea to participate in the event.
“I just think for someone so young to do something so selfless is so amazing,” she said.
Dunsborough Primary School principal Garry Jones said he was very proud of Jaspar’s efforts.
“I was impressed that he showed the initiative to do something like this and his intentions were very genuine,” he said.
“I am also quite proud of the kids who gave up their pocket money to support this cause.”
