A petition signed by more than 200 people prompted the removal of a $1 spectator fee at the Geographe Leisure Centre this week.

On August 24, Busselton City councillors received the electronic petition, which questioned the fee’s reasoning and implementation.

The petition’s signatories also raised concerns about the fee’s inconsistent implementation.

On Wednesday night, councillors voted on the officer’s recommendation to remove the fee on the basis it was “not easily clarified” and likely to “cause confusion into the future”.

The fee’s removal could leave up to a $7000 deficit in GLC revenue for the 2016-17 financial year, but officers wrote in the agenda all attempts would be made to recoup costs.
