Sports subsidy program kicking goals in Busselton

Busselton Dunsborough Times

A government program to help financially disadvantaged children play sport is kicking goals in Busselton.

KidSport is a joint initiative from the Department of Sport and Recreation and local governments to allow eligible young people aged between five and 18 to apply for financial assistance to contribute towards club fees.

Department figures reveal the City of Busselton has been the fourth largest user of the program since it started in late 2011.

On top of that, Busselton is in the top two suburbs in WA for assisted children and the Busselton Netball Association is in the top six clubs.

Dodgers Netball Club coach Belinda Bartlett said the program had been well advertised and estimated about a quarter of their players had benefited from it.

“I think having the fees paid takes a burden off the families and gets the kids active and that’s what sport’s about,” she said.

To find out if your child is eligible, contact the City of Busselton on 9781 0444 or your local club.
