Snowy orchids to go on display

A Margaret River winery is set to blossom when it hosts an orchid display this weekend.

The Margaret River Orchid Society is holding its annual exhibition at Watershed Winery from 10am-4pm tomorrow and on Sunday.

Member Rick Winch said the show was a great opportunity to view a diverse range of orchids.

“It’s a marvellous event and we get buses coming from all over the place, ” he said.

“We will have the exotic stuff and a lot of natives. No two orchids are the same.”

Between 20 and 25 members of the society will exhibit around 200 orchids in total.

This year’s theme is orchids in the snow and a vibrant display will be created to depict this.

Mr Winch said the show had received rave reviews in the past and this year’s event would also be good.

“It’s a good opportunity for people who are interested in orchids as you can ask questions of the members, ” he said.

“It’s an ageing scene and we’re always on the lookout for people who want to join us.

“Personally, I like the therapeutic aspect and there’s a beautiful fragrance.

“I can go to my shed and spend hours totally relaxing.”
