Luke Harding, from the South Wales town of Pembrokeshire, surprised his girlfriend Rachel Hughes with a Southern Skydivers tandem jump in March.

As Ms Hughes touched down on the beach, Mr Harding was waiting on bended knee, a bouquet of red roses in his arms and a banner behind him which read “Marry Me.”

“The ring was also a little on the wild side,” Mr Harding said.

“Rachel’s not much for big name brands but I wanted her to have something she could shout about so I got her a blue sapphire Vera Wang Love Collection engagement ring.”

Mr Harding, who has been on a working holiday in Australia with Ms Hughes for around six moths, is a lifelong “water baby” and said the ring was symbolic of the couple’s connection to the ocean.

“I wasn’t nervous about the jump or about the proposal,” Mr Harding said

“But I was nervous about the weather. But it was picture perfect; there was the lightest wind and glistening water. It’s going to stay in our memories forever”

Mr Harding said his Ms Hughes, his girlfriend of around three and a half years, “didn’t have a clue” about the planned skydive when the couple set out for a day trip from their Safety Bay home that morning.

In his last surprise of the day, Mr Harding had also arranged for all the couple’s friends to be waiting at their home with party poppers and champagne when they returned.

Mr Harding said following the proposal he had been inundated with calls from media and the youtube video of the proposal had ‘gone nuts’ with views online.

He said the wedding would be held back in the UK in August 2015.

“I’m sure there’ll be more surprises then,” he said.

“It’s every girls dream to have a magical wedding and proposal and Rachel deserves that 10 fold,” he said.
