Skipping to the beat of a healthy heart

Busselton Dunsborough Times

The Busselton Primary School Funky Feet skipping team promoted the healthy activity on a tour this week in the lead up to September’s Jump Rope for Heart campaign.

Eighteen skippers spent three days performing for primary school students in the Rockingham and Mandurah areas. Coach Anne Dwyer said the team jumped through the spinning ropes with pogo sticks, balls and some did push-ups.

The students participate in regular 20-minute training sessions but she said “anyone who jumps rope for three minutes can be considered fit.”

Ms Dwyer said the benefit to the Year 4 to 7 team members extended beyond fitness and included a strengthening of intergrades relationships.

She said many of the children knew someone who had been affected by a heart condition and this is their way of raising fundswhile having fun.
