Shark sightings raise alarm

A shark sighting in West Busselton this morning has prompted a Department of Fisheries search of Geographe Bay.

The sighting is the second in the region in 24 hours.

The department’s regional manager Phil Shaw said a report of a four to five metre shark about 100m from the shore in was received from a resident at 6am today.

He said police and fisheries officers visited the area in a boat this morning but had yet to confirm the sighting.

A report of a shark sighting at Wonnerup Estuary, was received last night and is also unconfirmed.

“At this stage we’re assuming it has moved on,” Mr Shaw said.

Mr Shaw said beaches were still open but swimmers were advised to be cautious in the area.
