A large shark has reportedly been spotted east of the Busselton Jetty.

Department of Fisheries Shark Response Unit’s Mike Burgess said tourists from Lake’s Entrance spotted the shark about 50m offshore at 1.30pm.

“They said there were familiar with the difference between dolphins and sharks, and were confident what they saw was a shark,” he said.

However, Mr Burgess said murky water was making it hard for the department to confirm the sighting.

The City of Busselton has closed two beaches and Fisheries Department mobile patrols are on site.
