Students of Yallingup Steiner School are inviting residents to learn more about the global community as part of their annual fundraising curry night.

The event, a celebration of Indian cuisine and culture, has been a staple of the school’s fundraising calendar for more than 15 years.

“The children celebrate all the major religions of the world ... and they learn about different cultures,” event co-organiser Kate McGeachie said.

“This expands on from that.”

Meals will be prepared by parents and sold on the night, with all funds going back into the school.

Ms McGeachie pointed to child-sized custom woodworking tables made by a student’s uncle as an example of projects supported by the event.

“He built them out of goodwill, but we still need to pay for the materials,” she said.

“But it’s also a fun, social event — a good winter warmer.”

The curry night will include fire pits, Indian music and the opportunity to dress in traditional attire.

Floor cushions will also allow attendees to eat in the “authentic Indian style”, Ms McGeachie said.

The event kicks off next Saturday at 5pm at Yallingup Steiner School, at the corner of Wildwood and Caves roads.

Entry is $20 for adults, $5 for children and under-fives can join in free.

Tickets can be bought with cash at the door.
