After six years of work, the Geographe Bay Music group will be officially launched tonight.

The group will link the Busselton Senior High School and Cape Naturaliste College music programs into a joint entity, which will also include students from Dunsborough Primary School, Geographe Primary School, Busselton Primary School, West Busselton Primary School and Vasse Primary School.

The group includes four large symphonic bands, two large jazz ensembles, vocal ensembles, drum ensembles, a rock band and numerous single, duo and trio performers.

Busselton Senior High School head of music Nicky Hair initially suggested the joining of the music programs as a way for students to maintain friendships and foster music within every school.

“It offers students a lot more opportunities than when it was separated,” she said.

“There are 230 students over seven schools involved.

“It definitely encourages students to get involved and it’s just wonderful all the public schools are working together.”

More than 30 Busselton Senior High School former students will be coming in to join the last piece, Ms Hair said.

“Because everyone had built it to this stage we wanted to incorporate past and present into the future,” she said.

“It’s going to be a fabulous performance and is an amazing opportunity to see some amazing students show off the skills they have learnt and share in the momentous linking of the schools.

“The concert is a celebration of where we’ve come and leading into the future.”

The Future Directions concert will be held at the Busselton Senior High School gymnasium from 6.30pm today. Entry is free and supper will be provided.
